Jim Starlin is an American comic book writer and artist best known for his work at Marvel Comics, where he created the cosmic villain Thanos, as well as characters like Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, and Shang-Chi. Born on October 9, 1949, Starlin rose to prominence in the 1970s with his work on Iron Man and Captain Marvel, introducing cosmic themes and psychedelic visuals that became his signature. His acclaimed runs on Warlock and The Infinity Gauntlet cemented his legacy as a master of cosmic storytelling. Starlin also worked for DC Comics, revamping characters like Batman and writing The Death of Captain Marvel, one of the first major graphic novels.
